I've been working with computers since I was 4 years old. My father bought an Apple II and I was compelled to figure out how it worked. Ah the wonderful days of "catalog" and "bload". I felt pretty proud when I was around 7 years old and figured out how to put passwords in 'hello' that couldn't be bypassed on boot. Ah thinking about security even then. None the less, one could still boot off another disk and then stick that disk in the drive. "Security by obscurity" wasn't beyond my 7 year old mind so I kept that my little secret.

I've spent the last 10 years consulting in Information Security and talking about regulatory compliance through-out the United States with a wide variety of companies and government entities. While my primary focus has always been perimeter security, I've also spent a fair amount of time working on security architecture (primarily for perimeter protection) and authentication/ access control systems. I also spent a fair amount of time developing web-based applications and database management/control programs.

Examples of the security work I've performed would include:

• Migrated a 7,000 rule configuration under AltaVista firewall to Symantec Enterprise Firewall, finalized in a 45 rule configuration that included 100% of the original access.
• Deployed firewall infrastructure for a Fortune 50 financial institution protecting their VPN access systems. This system serviced 25,000 VPN users.
• Designed and managed the network and security infrastructure for a local network security consulting firm in the Minneapolis area.
• Designed and deployed Cisco Secure IDS for a large financial services provider. I also integrated this system into their current monitoring systems.
• Developed an HA Firewall solution for a key governmental branch of the State of Minnesota.
• Designed and implemented a new security architecture for the perimeter protection at a branch of the US Military.
